(Montgomery, Ala) – Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the convictions of Brittany Head, 27, of Enterprise, Alabama, for felony murder and burglary in the first degree. Head was convicted in the Covington County Circuit Court on October 7, 2024.
The evidence at trial showed that on the night of November 16, 2020, Head and her husband, Tyquise Jenkins, went to a local convenience store where Head’s husband got into a fight with the victim, Micah Coon. Witnesses said that Jenkins was the aggressor. Coon went to his residence where he was followed by Head and others associated with Jenkins. Coon called 911 from his residence and stated that someone was trying to break into his house. The evidence showed that Jenkins, Head, and others forced their way into Coon’s residence and Coon was shot and killed during the confrontation. Head testified at her trial and denied involvement in the murder. The jury rejected her claim and found her guilty of felony murder and burglary in the first degree.
Covington County District Attorney Walt Merrell’s office successfully prosecuted this case and obtained guilty verdicts. Head was sentenced to life in prison. Head sought to have her convictions reversed on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm Head’s convictions. The Court did so in a decision issued Friday, August 15, 2025.
Attorney General Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General John J. Davis for his successful work on this case and thanked District Attorney Walt Merrell and his staff, for their valuable assistance in defending the felony murder and burglary convictions.
