AG ANNOUNCES FELONY ETHICS CONVICTION
OF FORMER MARSHALL COUNTY COMMISSIONER
(MONTGOMERY)–Attorney General Luther Strange announced the felony
ethics conviction of former Marshall County Commissioner Timothy Frank
Bollinger. Yesterday in Marshall County Circuit Court, Bollinger pleaded guilty to
converting a campaign contribution to his personal use. He was sentenced to 60
months, which was suspended, ordered to serve 48 months of probation, and to
perform 100 hours of community service.
Specifically, Bollinger admitted that he intentionally converted to his personal
use a check for $500 contributed to his campaign on about April 23, 2010. The
charge was made in an indictment returned by a Marshall County grand jury on
August 18, 2011. The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Special
Prosecutions Division.
“This case is important to protect the integrity of our elections process,” said
Attorney General Strange. “The people of Alabama deserve to have confidence that
when they make a contribution to influence an election, the candidate will not be
allowed to take their donation and use it for personal purposes. Those who do so
will be prosecuted and held to account for their crime.”

Attorney General Strange commended those who are handling this case,
noting in particular Public Corruption Special Prosecutor Matt Hart, Deputy
Attorneys General Pete Smyczek and Michael Duffy, and the Attorney General’s
Investigations Division. He also thanked the Marshall County District Attorney’s
Office and the Alabama Bureau of Investigation for their assistance.
