AG STRANGE ANNOUNCES ARREST OF BALDWIN MAN
CHARGED WITH MULTIPLE SEX CRIMES AGAINST A CHILD

(MONTGOMERY)–Attorney General Luther Strange announced the arrest of
a Baldwin County man for multiple sex crimes involving a child victim. Robert
Gaylord Kerr, 40, of Fairhope, was arrested on February 14 by agents of the U.S.
Marshal’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was taken to a local jail and
later transported to the Baldwin County Jail.
The Attorney General’s Office presented evidence to a Baldwin County grand
jury on February 4, resulting in the return of an eight-count indictment* against
Kerr.
Specifically, the indictment charges Kerr with two counts of first-degree
rape, two counts of first-degree sodomy; one count of first-degree sexual abuse;
one count of sexual abuse of a child aged less than 12 years old; and two counts of
enticing a child aged less than 16 for sexual intercourse, sodomy, or other sexual
contact. All of the alleged crimes involve the same child victim.
No further information about the investigation or about Kerr’s alleged crimes
other than that stated in the indictment may be released at this time.
First-degree rape and first-degree sodomy are class A felonies, punishable
by 10 years to 99 years or life imprisonment. Sexual abuse of a child aged less
than 12 years is a class B felony, punishable by two to 20 years imprisonment.
First-degree sexual abuse and enticing a child for sexual purposes are class C
felonies, punishable by one year and one day to 10 years imprisonment.

Attorney General Strange commended Assistant Attorney General Kelly
Hawkins, who is prosecuting the case, and the special agents of the Attorney
General’s Investigations Division. He also thanked the Baldwin County
Department of Human Resources, the Fairhope Police Department, the Baldwin
County District Attorney’s Office, and the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task
Force, for valuable assistance in this case.

*An indictment is merely an accusation. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
