(Montgomery, Ala.) – Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the murder and first-degree burglary convictions of Tyquise Jamal Jenkins, 27, of Evergreen. Jenkins was convicted in the Covington County Circuit Court April 3, 2025.
The evidence at trial showed that in November 2020 the victim, Micah Coon, went to a local convenience store in Andalusia where he got into a fight with Jenkins. Store employees said that Jenkins’s wife started the confrontation between the victim and Jenkins. After the victim left the store, Jenkins and several others, including his uncle Frank McQueen, drove to the victim’s home where they forced entry and beat the victim severely before shooting him to death. Testimony at trial further showed that Jenkins was bleeding and angry after his initial confrontation with the victim and that Jenkins forcibly kicked in the window of the victim’s house and started a fight with him which eventually resulted in the victim’s death. It should be noted that several other co-defendants in this brutal murder were convicted in various trials that were conducted by the Covington County District Attorney’s office.
Covington County District Attorney Walt Merrell and Chief Assistant District Attorney Nikki Stephens successfully prosecuted this case and obtained guilty verdicts. Jenkins was sentenced to life imprisonment for his crimes. Jenkins sought to have his convictions reversed on appeal.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm Jenkins’s convictions. The Court did so in a decision issued Friday, August 14, 2026.
