(Montgomery, Ala) – Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals affirmed the felony murder conviction of Jadarrin Levoy Watkins, 24, of Evergreen. Watkins was convicted in the Conecuh County Circuit Court on May 5, 2025 for the 2018 murder of Greg Davison, and subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment.
The evidence at trial showed that the victim, Greg Davison, was found shot to death in his residence. Davison’s body was discovered when he failed to deliver a truckload of logs in Atmore. Davison had been shot numerous times with a .22 caliber weapon. Police investigation led authorities to Watkins. A co-defendant, Deondre Golden, testified against Watkins at trial. Golden testified that, while driving a group of friends back from Brewton on the night of the murder, it was Watkins who urged him to go to Davison’s house so they could get some money. Davison’s car was not present at his house, so they thought he might not be home. Watkins and one other person in the car went into Davison’s home where they encountered and shot him. Golden and the others who waited by the car heard gunshots and, soon thereafter, Watkins came running back to the car. Watkins admitted that he shot Davison. The next day at school, he told Golden that he thought he had killed Davison and that he, Watkins, had gone to Davison’s home attempting to take $20,000.00 that Davison had saved to buy a truck.
The Criminal Trials Division of the Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case and obtained the guilty verdict. Conecuh County District Attorney Todd Watson successfully prosecuted this case and obtained a guilty verdict. The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Division handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals to affirm Watkins’s conviction. The Court did so in a decision issued Friday, August 21, 2026.
