(Montgomery, Ala) – Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall today expressed his strong support for President Donald Trump’s nomination of Edmund LaCour Jr. to serve as a U.S. District Judge for the Northern District of Alabama.
“President Trump could not have made a better choice than Edmund LaCour for the federal bench,” said Attorney General Marshall. “Eddie is one of the most brilliant and principled lawyers with whom I have ever worked. His deep understanding of the law, his integrity, and his steady temperament are exactly what we need in a federal judge.”
“As Solicitor General, Eddie has led some of the most consequential legal battles in the country with exceptional skill and clarity. He has earned the respect of courts at every level—including the U.S. Supreme Court—and his legal acumen is second to none. Alabama and the nation will be well-served by his presence on the federal bench, and I urge the Senate to confirm him without delay.”
LaCour has served as Solicitor General of Alabama since May 2019, following his tenure as Deputy Solicitor General. Prior to his work in the Attorney General’s Office, LaCour was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis LLP in Washington, D.C., where he represented clients in high-profile matters before the U.S. Supreme Court, federal courts of appeals, and trial courts. His earlier legal practice included positions at Bancroft PLLC in Washington and Baker Botts LLP in Houston.
A native of Dothan, Alabama, LaCour earned his J.D. from Yale Law School, a Master of Philosophy from Trinity College Dublin, and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Birmingham-Southern College. He clerked for Judge William H. Pryor Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
