AG MARSHALL ANNOUNCES COURT OF CRIMINAL
APPEALS UPHOLDS PERRY COUNTY CONVICTION FOR
ATTEMPTED MURDER OF STATE TROOPER

(MONTGOMERY) – Attorney General Steven T. Marshall announced that the
Alabama Court of Criminal Appeals today upheld the conviction of Janice Green for the
attempted murder of a state trooper. Green was convicted in December of 2014 in Perry
County Circuit Court.
The Attorney General’s Criminal Trials Division presented evidence at trial that
Green fired a shot with a high-powered, scoped bolt-action rifle at a member of a State
Trooper Tactical Team that had come to serve a search warrant at her home. After her
arrest, Green told law enforcement officers that, “If I knew how to work that gun, I would
have shot y’all up.”

Green was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment. She subsequently sought to have
her conviction reversed on appeal. The Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Section
handled the case during the appeals process, arguing for the Alabama Court of
Criminal Appeals to affirm the conviction. The Court did so in its recent decision.

Attorney General Marshall commended Assistant Attorney General Ferris
Stephens of the Attorney General’s Criminal Appeals Section for his successful work in
the appeal of this case. He also thanked those involved in the prosecution, noting
Assistant Attorneys General Andrew Arrington and John Hensley of the Attorney General’s
Criminal Trials Division.
