AG STRANGE ANNOUCES 2014 SAFE SCHOOLS INITIATIVE;
INVITES NOMINATIONS FOR AWARDS OF EXCELLENCE
(MONTGOMERY) – Attorney General Luther Strange is inviting schools from
all eight of Alabama’s state school board districts to submit applications for the 2014
Alabama Safe Schools Initiative Awards of Excellence. The program was reinstituted
in 2013 with a new emphasis on encouraging technological advances to deal with
the challenges experienced by today’s schools and students. By letter and email this
week, the Attorney General notified Alabama schools and invited nominations for
the 2014 Awards of Excellence.
“These awards have previously provided the opportunity to identify and
recognize excellence in school safety. Last year the judging criteria placed special
emphasis on the use of technology in the safety plan,” said Attorney General
Strange. “After the awards were presented, my office summarized and published a
list of Best Practices from schools across the state. My office will once again
recognize those schools which have done an exceptional job at providing a safe
environment for students in Alabama with special emphasis being placed on

Attorney General Strange will visit winning schools in the fall to personally
present the award in honor of each school’s accomplishment.
Applications are being accepted now through September 26. More
information about criteria for the awards may be found at the Attorney General’s
website at http://www.ago.state.al.us/Update-531. The nominations will be
reviewed by an independent panel of judges, and one school from each state school
board district will be selected as a recipient of the Alabama Safe Schools Initiative
2014 Award of Excellence.
