AG STRANGE SPEAKS AT ALABAMA INDIA BUSINESS
PARTNERSHIPS’ SIXTH ANNUAL RECEPTION

(MONTGOMERY)- In keeping with his promise to promote economic
development, Attorney General Luther Strange spoke to members of the Alabama India
Business Partnerships (AIBP) at its sixth annual reception yesterday in Birmingham.
Attorney General Strange shared insights of his past experience with economic
development projects in India. Prior to his election as Attorney General, he was
founding partner of a law firm based in Birmingham that focused primarily on
economic development.

Attorney General Strange spoke of his work through groups like AIBP and their
importance in strengthening relationships between government and business contacts
in India and Alabama. “During my 30-year career as an attorney, I have spent a great
deal of time helping business and industry locate and expand in Alabama.” In addition
to his participation in negotiations for the $1 billion Hyundai automotive plant in
Montgomery and the $80 million Hudson-Alpha Biotech Research Institute in
Huntsville, Strange was instrumental in bringing about the groundbreaking joint
venture between UAB, Southern Research Institute and Jubilant Biosys of India.

“Having spent time in India, I am well aware that the relationship between India
and the State of Alabama is critical to growing our economy,” he said. “Our state is
fortunate to have world class institutions like UAB, Alabama State University and
Auburn University. My hope is that we can partner with businesses in India to bring
more high tech jobs to our great state. Alabama and India share a common language
and both respect the rule of law. Public and private entities alike have a great
opportunity to capitalize on this emerging market.”

AIBP’s primary mission is to provide a platform to foster partnerships for
profitable expansions of businesses between Alabama and India. The guest of honor at
last night’s reception was Aziz Hannifa, editor-in-chief of India Abroad.
